Stations
The variety of stations is amplified by the unique stations of certain
factions. Stations have greater implications than docking bays by
providing more technology in the tech tree. Some stations are even
necessary for other stations to become available. Each station's contribution
to the tech tree is unique, and so is the technology it provides for
the ships you'll be using. Knowing what you have and what you're up
against is determinant of your skills.
There are two kinds of stations.
Stations used only for expanding territory serve secondary
purposes, like increased accessibility,
or increased credit generation. Only
the outpost has launching/docking
bays. Technology stations, on the
other hand, provide a contribution
to the tech tree. All tech stations
have launching/docking bays. Only
technology stations are necessary
for survival. In order to conquer
an enemy, a team must destroy/capture
all of its technology stations. In
multi-team games, outposts also guarantee
survival.
Belters have a unigue advantage
over all of the other factions. Normally
if a tech base is destroyed, the faction
loses all of the Mk II tech and the
ships. Belters does not. Remember,
if a base is destroyed before a
particular tech (or base upgrade)
has finished researching, that
tech must be researched again if the
base is rebuilt.
Stations used for expanding territory
The Outpost provides
increased accessibility to ships as it provides a
launching and docking bay. Miners can also dock in
outposts.
The Teleport Receiver
also provides increased accessibility to all ships
that are equipped with a ripcord device. Ships can
ripcord to this station. Having one at home and others
in important sectors and offensive positions is key
to defense and offense. Most can also rescue eject
pods.
The Refinery Platform
increases miners' speed by providing them with an
area to unload He3 it has collected in cargo. Most
refineries can also serve as rescue stations for eject
pods.
The Special Refinery
is unique to GigaCorp and was designed to be built
on special asteroids (Carbon, Silicon, Uranium). The
technology generates valuable minerals quickly, thus
providing the team with incredible income. In addition,
those stations serve as teleport receivers, allowing
them to defended and to serve the same purposes as
teleport receivers. They can also rescue eject pods.
Technology Stations
The Garrison is the
central building, essential to construct other technological
stations. It contains crucial equipment and upgrades.
The Supremacy Center
is used to developed fighters and bomber technology,
providing strong offensive equipment. It also allows
for strong defense using the fighters' quick deployment
abilities and strong firepower.
The Tactical Laboratory
develops stealth technology to strike behind enemy
lines using stealth fighters and bombers that cripple
the enemy's economy and expansion, and eventually
their technology as well.
The Expansion Complex
is used for strong defense using the short-range interceptor.
The agile craft are able to perform long-range assaults
but fairly limited compared to other ships. The troop
transport can serve an offensive purpose by capturing
enemy stations.
The Palisade is unique
to the Ga'Taraan Federation and is required for the
traditional tech stations (sup, TAC, EXP) to be built.
It provides the team with Corvettes.
The Research Station
is also unique to GT. It provides the team with Mustangs
and all kinds of equipment useful to different ships
in the fleet and unique to the faction.
The Shipyard develops
powerful capital ships that are costly but very destructive.
Capital ships are very varied. The assault ship can
serve as a stealth teleport receiver, the destroyer
and Devastator as incredible escort ships either from
an extreme range or close range, and the missile frigate
and cruisers are armed battleships that perform assaults
directly upon targets.
